Cyclones and intricate cloud formations in Jupiter’s north polar region, observed by NASA’s Juno spacecraft on July 16, 2024, during perijove 63.

This image was independently reconstructed from the original JunoCam colour-filter image strips, using the camera’s optical model and spacecraft navigation data. Then refined the framing, colour and contrast to bring out the swirling cloud patterns surrounding the two prominent cyclones.

The processing approach draws on Gerald Eichstädt’s documented work.

Colours and contrast are enhanced; this is not an exact natural-colour representation.

Image data: NASA/JPL-Caltech/SwRI/MSSS.

Image reconstruction, processing and final enhancement: Thomas Thomopoulos.

Processing reference: Gerald Eichstädt.

The processing software was developed with AI assistance. The reconstruction uses only original JunoCam image data, without generative image synthesis or added cloud textures.
