This image has been processed from the raw framelets by removing the effects of global illumination and then enhancing the contrast/color and sharpening small scale features. The source data framelets have very high resolution (about 2.3 km/pixel at the nadir) and were obtained when the spacecraft was flying over a relatively low contrast area on Jupiter. Since the original images were taken in lossless compression mode (which is rare; usually lossy compression is used) a severe contrast enhancement could be used in the lower half of the image. This reveals subtle features in the clouds without revealing compression artifacts. The nadir is near the right edge center in this image.
