An orthographic view showing Jupiter's southern hemisphere, including the south pole. A latitude/longitude grid is included, mainly to show the position of the south pole. This image reveals that interestingly, Jupiter's south polar region is very different from e.g. Saturn's polar regions. Jupiter looks far more chaotic and irregular near the poles than Saturn does. In particular there is no vortex with its center at the pole as in Saturn's case. The contrast and color have been enhanced and the effects of global illumination removed to better show dimly lit features near the terminator.
