This is really interesting! I'm a little new to Jupiter studies, and I'm seeing a lot of submissions for the white spots and also some for the black dots. From what I've read it seems the white spots are possibly some kind of weather event, and it makes me curious about what the black dots could possibly be--perhaps related to the weather event, though there seem to also be black spots that are not surrounded by white spots.

I am interested in finding out what causes these black dots and if photographed if they will be able to be identified.

Are these black dots all vortices of jet streams where the clouds are funneling and we can see the dark beneath the clouds, or is it a different chemical composition of some kind?

I would love to see a closer image of this as well. Hopefully with a little more detail we can see what weather condition is at play here.

I wonder what is significant about having these black dots against a white background? I hope further investigation of Jupiter's weather and surface features can provide answers to this mysterious planet.

I would suggest further investigation of the small, black dots on the white background. First of all why is the background white? And what is the dark dots?

What is the difference between the black dots near the North polar region and the larger white dots we see near the equator of Jupiter? What type of cloud or atmospheric interactions and compositions are occurring at this point? It seems very interesting like a giant swirling tornado.

You bring up some excellent questions. I have noted a few of these black dots scattered across the cloud cover and am wondering if it is a particular gas causing this darker coloration or a combination of gasses.
